The Best Outdoor Spots for Fall Family Photos
Fall is the time of year where we all begin to settle back into our regular routines. Kids are back in school, summer travel plans have come to an end, and in general we are all focusing on the responsibilities we may have abandoned once summer rolled in. One of those (fun!) responsibilities is coordinating family photos, and with the fall scenery shining in all her glory, we couldn’t think of a better time to organize your annual family photo shoot.
You can’t really go wrong with any outdoor spot in Boulder County, but if you want to take the guess work out of it, we have put together our top 10 list of outdoor places for fall family photos, along with tips for coordinating your clothing, keeping young kids cheerful throughout the shoot, and how to relax into the poses you are being asked to do by your photographer.

How to Coordinate Clothing For Family Photos:
This can vary greatly depending on your personal style, but a good rule of thumb is to use the fall color palette for inspiration. Rather than having the whole family wearing the same outfit or colors, mix it up a bit to add dimension and contrast to your photos. Use colors like, burnt orange, deep reds, vibrant yellows, and dark greens to really get into the mood of fall. Or if plaid is your thing, find a variety of complementary colored plaid shirts, scarves and hats for the whole family to wear.
Keeping Kids Happy During A Photo Shoot:
This is one thing you want to put a lot of thought and preparation into if you have young kids. Scheduling your family photos around nap time and snack time will likely give you the best chance for zero meltdowns during a family photo shoot. But be prepared for things to go awry anyway. Pack plenty of snacks and games to keep kiddos busy, and when all else fails turn the shoot into fun games for them. Things like hide and seek in a park, somersault contests, and outdoor tea parties not only reign the kids back in, but they also make for really fun candid photos for your shoot. Win, win!
