Dushanbe Teahouse

Dushanbe Teahouse is one of the most lovely places to have brunch or lunch in Boulder CO. The decor is incredible with the whole building having been shipped here from Tajikistan. I love the selection of teas. My favorite is the Jasmine Pearls. The food is delicious, but overall a bit heavy. Going with a salad is a good option — but if you do, you will miss on the delectable international treats that are on the menu. Don’t expect this to be a quick lunch. Service is notoriously slow. Go to enjoy the atmosphere and good conversation with friends. They are known for their Chai Tea and the decor. All the beautiful and unique designs on the cedar pillars, ceiling, and walls were all hand carved from artisans in Tajikistan. The furniture was also handmade as well as the decorations including the fountains and paintings.
History
The Dushanbe Teahouse was a gift to Boulder CO from the mayor, Maksud Ikramov, of the sister city Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan, in 1987. 40 artisans handmade the teahouse without any assistance from power tools in the time span of 2 years. After it was built the teahouse was disassembled and the pieces were put into 200 crates. After it was sent to Boulder the project hit a bump in the road. There were multiple political problems and lack of funds to take the pieces out of the crates and reassemble it. After 11 long years the teahouse was finally ready to be built in Boulder. In 1998 the teahouse was put together on city property and opened to the public. It sits next to the Boulder Creek to keep the tradition of teahouses being placed along waterways or other bodies of water alive.
I highly recommend making a trip up to Dushanbe Teahouse for lunch or brunch, you won’t regret it. Take your family or a friend from out of state. Allow enough time to sit down and enjoy your surroundings. Take a walk around the teahouse and look at all the breath-taking artwork. They offer so many teas that you might want to take two trips!
