The new home owners of 6164 Flattop understand how important it is for children to get a good education. Because of this they used their non-profit donation to Douglass Elementary PTO. At Douglass Elementary, they believe it is important to develop not only our students’ academic skills, but also their social and emotional skills. By teaching them how to be responsible and set goals, by encouraging them to be creative and to take initiative, by embracing diversity and solving conflicts positively, students can grow to their full potential.
As Douglass Elementary continues to expect more budget cuts at the state level, they rely on generous donations to fund needed programs at Douglass and offset future reductions. Every Fall, the Douglass PTO raises money to support our children’s education. These donations go directly into the child’s classroom the year they are received. Here are some examples of how the money is used to support Douglass Elementary:
- Literacy support – providing paraprofessionals and/or tutors 3x/week in each classroom to assist in literacy instruction and curriculum while focusing on smaller group interactions.
- Technology enhancements for classrooms
- Enrichment programs such as guest speakers and educational seminars
- Upgrades to learning supplies and organizational material
